Consisting of more than 60 islands the Republic of Singapore is an ultra-modern state with the central hub being the island known as Singapore. It is located in Southeast Asia disconnected from the Peninsular of Malaysia by the Straits of Johor to the north and the Straits of Singapore to the south. It was a British territory for 139 years before gaining independence in 1963, after this it quickly developed and prospered into one of Asia’s chief powerhouse economies. It is a multi-ethnic society of five and a half million peoples consisting mainly of Chinese with sizeable minorities of Malays, Eurasians and Indians. Since gaining independence Singapore has created one of the most competitive economies with the third highest per capita income in the world. To assist this rapidly expanding economy Singapore required more land and it has achieved this by reclaiming over 50 square miles of land from the sea in a little over 50 years.
The city is one of the most exciting destinations to visit in the world with millions of visitors passing through Changi Airport making it one of the busiest in the world. To accommodate this influx of visitors each year Singapore has invested heavily in hotel accommodation to suit all budgets. It is an ideal all year round destination with no distinct seasons and uniform temperatures, also it is one of the world’s busiest stopover destinations with lots of tourist attractions for short stay and long stay visitors.

One of the premier tourist hotspots includes the towering skyscrapers and stunning architecture of Marina Bay with the iconic Merlion Fountain and the beautiful lotus shaped Art Science Museum. The waterfront promenade is truly exceptional with stunning Gardens by the Bay a huge park constructed on over 100 hectares of reclaimed land with remarkable giant tree-like structures. A short distance from Marina Bay is the Chinatown district with its colourful alleyways, and hustle and bustle atmosphere a great location for a cheap meal and drink. Singapore is world famous for the ultimate shopping experience with beautiful air conditioned shopping malls throughout with the most famous shops and malls being located along Orchard Road.

For memorable vistas of the city head for Mount Faber Park and take a ride on the cable car across to Sentosa, Singapore’s famous leisure island complex with its luxury resorts and beaches, golf courses and sensational theme parks. Other great tourist destinations include the stunning Masjid Sultan Mosque found in the delightful Arab Quarter with traditional cafes, colourful textile houses and so much more to view. If you still have time to explore more great attractions then visit the Jurong Bird Park, Singapore Zoo, S.E.A. Aquarium, Jurong Frog Farm or Underwater World Singapore.
