Singapore Street Food Stalls Get Michelin Stars
Two modest food stalls in Singapore made history by becoming the first street vendors to be recognized by the Michelin Guide.
Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice and Noodle and Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle were among 29 dining venues to feature in the new Singapore guide. There are over 6,000 food stalls selling traditional food in Singapore, so the competition was tough.
The owner of Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice and Noodle is excited to have gotten a Michelin Star and hopes that it will inspire younger chefs to keep the tradition of food and food stalls.
What’s great for tourists and locals alike is that they can now can Michelin Star food at food stall prices. So you can now get world-renowned traditional Singaporean food for about $3.00.
Overall, 29 venues in Singapore received Michelin Stars. The restaurants ranged from traditional ones serving Singaporean food to French cuisine.
All of the attention from the Michelin Guide has brought well – deserved attention to the country. It is no longer just a transit city just for business, it is a place where you want to stay and eat.
